How not to receive unwanted bulk postal mail?

What are some ways one can do to avoid receiving unsolicited bulk U.S. mail (not e-mail)? Is there a govermental organization I can contact or CC my requests to be taken off different mailing lists?

In these tough economic times, what are you doing to save money? What perks are you giving up, if any?

Instead of buying movies or doing PPV, we switched to Netflix.
We buy in bulk and split the costs with neighbors.(along with shared shopping trips)
Buy at local farmers markets when we can.

I have more, but I’m curious as to what everyone else does.
