Is all bulk email considered spam?

Our charity would like to send about 2000 “bulk” emails. If a few recipients categorize the email as spam, will all emails from this sender be considered spam?

  1. That is a loaded question and yes you can get in trouble if too many of the recipients mark your email recipients you may end up on black lists.

The list itself, how you built it and where you got it are the biggest factor (what and how often you send things to the list being the next factor). There are also certain rules you need to follow in the email itself (like include an easy way to opt-out of the list and your address and alternative contact information) to not be named as spam.

Ideally your list is a list of people who know who you are and have specifically told you it is ok to send them emails regarding your charity – then it isn’t technically spam (though some may have forgotten they gave you permission and report you anyway).

If you just bought or got given the list – you will most likely be considered spam.

If you have a list of people who know who you are but haven’t given you ok to email them – you will most likely be considered spam.

If you have a list of people who agreed to get only certain types of emails from you and then you send them something totally different – you will most likely be considered spam.

    Hope that helps.

  2. That depends on how the Spam guard works on any given Email service providers accounts. It can very well sound an alarm on that address. Most, of the time if your recipients do want the mailings, all they have to do is go into their ‘spam’ folder and check mark the item they wish to keep. Clicking on the ‘Not spam’ button and returning it to their in box, also allowing that address to be delivered to the in box from now on. However, they must go in periodically and check to insure all items are spam.
Also, make sure that they have your address is in their address book, as it helps to ensure that address as a “safe” one.
