hi all – ive finally saved up to make myself a pretty good gaming rig at $1800. i configured a pretty good system but its quite a bit over my budget [$300 over] so im just wondering are prices gonna come down in the near future [like christmas]. its the gtx 295 [$450] and the motherboard [rampage ii extreme - $300] which are hiking the price up. ive lived my whole life in this buddhist country where no one jumps on to the christmas festivity and bulk buying bandwagon so i really have no idea what the exact marketing patterns are during xmas [xcept for what ive seen in movies lol]
thanks for the informative answers guys! wow this is so irritating cuz i just saw some of last years walmart catalogs and one gets the impression that prices have come down like 50% for everything when in reality its all just a gimmick!! goddamnit i **** marketing schemes!
No.
Prices do steadily drop overtime. However shops tend not to offer lower prices during the holiday period as people will buy the items regardless of price.
Usually the best prices are to be had in January after Christmas.
However, some retail chains offer screaming Deals on Black Friday (the day after US Thanksgiving or the official start date of Xmas shopping). Keep an eye out!
Complete systems like dell hp and compaq are likely to lower their prices for the holiday season. However the computer you are looking for, I assume a customer made machine cause you are asking about components instead of computers, are more than likely not to reduce in price, or if it does, not a whole lot.
No. Don’t wait for big discounts unless someone founds new technology about these components. Discounts usually starts on Spring. Also, Windows 7 will be more expensive after X-mas. This is the right time to buy some new stuff.
not anymore than anything else. black friday and other holiday specials aside you probably won’t gain anything.
also if a component goes up in price, it usually keeps going up. vice versa for components that go down in price.
I would definitely consider dropping the GTX295 and replacing it with an HD5870, it’ll work better for you because it’s over $100 cheaper ($500 usually for GTX295, $380 for HD5870), has DirectX 11 capabilities, and is newer (will work better in the future). Also, just keep an eye out for sales to drop the price dramatically. Hope this helps, good luck!
