How do I get my email address off of the “targeted email list”?

Is there any way you can keep your private email private? It should be against the law to sell email addresses without a persons consent.

  1. It is Against the Law; Under “Certain” Circumstances they can get your consent, but only in a way loosely termed “by a Trick”. Your Private email is SUPPOSED to remain private but in many cases does not. Spammers will send to domains using bots, Spiders, and even by sending to addresses that closely resemble your name… some-how this gets through; Through a process of Randomn sends, for example if a Spammer can find that a ISP has address then it will try, for example SMITH(first letter of alphabet, gradually moving to the last in many emails)@DOMAIN.NET , then it will likely get a few hits; Thats a crude example, the Spammers algorithm is very complex and usually has been refined from a lot of experience, for example, certain letters occur more often, certain names occur more often, that sort of thing.
Until the Govt shuts down the few Remaining Spammers, the Spammers will continue; Targeted email lists are slightly different; They are sold, passed on by consent; Often mail catalogues are done this way.
It is against the Law to Sell Email Addresses without your consent, but if in some way you do consent, then thats an unfortunate loophole, which should be closed, but I know there are lists that for me I like to be on, so in that sense I get Targeted email lists and I have signed up for some. Its the one that get my address simply because I have a Virtual House on the Virtual World that annoy me.

  2. You are correct, it should be illegal. Once you open up an email that is spam, they got you! They will know that you have an active email address and will pass it around to there “buddies” for someone else’s email address, or sell it to them. Never open an email if you do not recognize who it is from. The only way to avoid anymore spam email, is to change your email address. You can just change one letter, or one number in your address, and that should do it. I had the same problem, and I just changed one letter in my address, and now I hardly get any spam email. You will have to get a whole new email address though, don’t just change it on your own, it will not work. Here are a few places, where you can get free email accounts..good luck>>
