On my trips to the market I always stop to measure my BP. I seem to always be around 180 sys, and 80 dys. My heart rate is usually extremely low at 44. Should I be worried?
Just a little background information, I’m an avid runner. I run four times a week. I vary my intensity levels from hill running to jogging long distance to sprints. I generally run at least 3 miles per run though regardless of intensity training. I also play tennis on the weekends. I suppose I’m frustrated because I can never seem to get my systolic low. I have a larger build though and weigh 215 lbs and 6′ high. Would losing bulk help these numbers?
Hmmm I may not be remembering my readings correct then. I personnaly feel like I’m in great shape and I have no problem running long distances. thanks for the help. If I get the same readings on my way home tonight, I’ll go see a doctor. Thanks for the replies.
It should be low rather than high and your HR should be a bit higher. I would go to the doctor to get it checked out. I’m in physio and we wouldn’t walk with anyone with a BP that high let alone let them run!
Whoa. That is too high. If you are a body builder or exercise finatic your Blood pressure will go up slighty from your normal range, but you must have been at a higher blood pressure level. You need to go see doc!
You need to see a physician about your Systolic Blood Pressure. If it’s 180 resting, then you are probably in danger of suffering a hemorrhagic stroke (bleed in the brain) while exercising. It’s possible your blood pressure is a symptom of another illness as well. Sometimes the first sign of kidney disease is high blood pressure.
At this point you need to contact your doctor if your RESTING blood pressure (sit or lie for 5 minutes with feet uncrossed then take your BP) is over 140/90 (either ##).
normal blood pressure is an average of 120/80.
