I just recieved this email with the IRS logo and i would like to know how or who i should report it to. I did not hit the link.

Over 130 million Americans will receive refunds as part of President Bush program to jumpstart
economy. Our records indicate that you are qualified to receive the 2008 Economic Stimulus Refund.
The fastest and easiest way to receive your refund is by direct deposit to your checking/savings account.
Please follow the link and fill out the form and submit before June 28, 2008 to ensure that your refund
will be processed as soon as possible.

Submitting your form on June 28, 2008 or later means that your refund will be delayed due to the volume
of requests we anticipate for the Economic Stimulus Refund.

Note: If you received this message in your SPAM/BULK folder, that is because of the large amount of e-mails we are sending out or because of the restrictions implemented by your ISP

  1. yes, it is SPAM

  2. The IRS does NOT do business through email. Report it to the IRS. It is fraud.

They have continuously had the news people reporting that they only contact you by mail. Anything else is fraud, and you should call the IRS at their 800 number to report it.

  3. sounds like it… i never trust emails like that!

  4. Yes it is a scam. It is a rebate, not a refund. That is the telltale sign that it is a scam. My local news did a report on this topic

  5. don’t do it! How did the irs get your email address in the 1st place? And if this was legit, they would offer you other ways to get the $…not just direct deposit

  6. Come on. Are you the only one of tens of millions that does not know the IRS does NOT contact you except by mail? Fact.
Of course it’s a scam. Same banks in Nigeria are holding your long lost inheritance money.

  7. It is a very safe bet that this is a scam. If you have not lost any thing via this scam the police will not be able to do anything for you. The agency responsible for investigating would most likely be the FBI. But as they are understaffed they will not do anything for you. The best thing you can do is block the sender and delete the email. Good luck.

  8. YES IT IS A BIG TIME SCAM…..WE HAD IT PUBLISHED IN OUR LOCAL PAPER QUITE AWHILE AGO.
DO NOT DOIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!they will empty your account out.

  9. The IRS does not communicate with citizens via mass e-mails. This is probably a scammer trying to get your bank account information. The giveaway is that the message is generic and does not contain any personal information about you that the real IRS would know, like your name, address and Social Security number. Do not follow the link, and report the message as spam to your Internet provider.

If you already have your tax refund direct-deposited, you don’t need to do anything. Your incentive check will be delivered the same way. If you receive your tax refund by mail, that’s how you’ll get your incentive check.

By the way, only people who file tax returns are eligible to receive the incentive check. If you don’t file and you receive one of those messages, that’s a red flag that someone is trying to scam you.

  10. The IRS has an official site that gives you all you need to know about the Economic Stimulus Refund. This email sounds suspicious. You can also call the IRS to talk to a human about this.

  11. My grandma got an exact thing when signing up for a job on AOL. It had the header and looked like AOL had sent it. All she did was send a reply to them. Just like margret had said it is probably to get your bank account or get a social secruity number

  12. It IS a SCAM!!!
IRS will send you correspondence in the mail.
    Never email!!!

  13. The IRS NEVER sends emails! Yes, this is a scam so please delete it right away. If you want to alert someone about this email – print it out and mail it to the local media or better yet the IRS. CJ

  14. Big time SCAM
It will empty your BANK ACCOUNT

  15. This is a scam!!! Don’t give them any information. Delete. The I.R.S. uses the mail not email. They just want your bank account number and your social security number.

  16. Definitely a scam!!!!!! The IRS does not send you an email!

  17. SPAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You don’t need to do anything for it to go into your bank account if you have one, other wise they mail it to you!!

  18. Call the IRS and ask them.

  19. I’m positive that they would not email you.

Look in your phone book and call the IRS, directly.

Please do not take a chance.
I’ll bet you a million dollars that the IRS will not contact you by email. Actually, I don’t have a million dollars but I’m darn sure. lol!

Forward the e-mail or Web site URL to the IRS at.
You can forward the message as received or provide the Internet header of the e-mail. The Internet header has additional information to help us locate the sender.

  21. Sounds like spam to me. Report it to local police.

  22. Sadly, yes, it’s a Scam & if you go to, a legitimate IRS website, there is a section that talks about Scams. Unfortunately, many trusting Seniors will become victims of “IT.” (identity theft)

  23. That seems questionable.
